Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Jean Kazandjian moved to France in 1962; Influenced by three different cultures; Armenian traditions with French and English-speaking worlds. In France he studied interior architecture until 1969 when he refocused his career as a painter.
In the 1970s, in Paris, Kazandjian met and exhibited with such artists as Hans Bellmer, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon and Alexander Calder. Kazandjian has had exhibitions in several European countries, Japan, Canada, the United States and The National Gallery of Armenia.
He is considered one of the most innovative and central figures of the post-surrealist and fantastic era.
